Class Arrangements for 2020-21

5th Jun 2020

Dear Parents,

As you know, it is difficult at present to predict when school will reopen and how exactly classes will return.

However, we continue to plan for next year as usual.

As you know, last year, we had to introduce composite classes due to budget constraints and smaller enrolment numbers. Composite classes continue to be unavoidable this year.

The Board of Governors have decided to reimplement the approach used last year which is to create composite classes in Primary One, Two and Three. The criterion used to create composite classes has been pupil age.

This means that the 7 oldest pupils in next year's Primary Two class (current Primary One) will join 20 Primary Three children (current Primary Two) and will be taught by Miss McKinney and Mrs Hegarty in a class of 27 pupils.

Similarly, the 11 youngest Primary Two children (current Primary One) will join 16 new Primary One pupils and will be taught by Miss R Kealey/Mrs C McKenna in a class of 27 pupils.

This approach is child-centred and it is hoped that this current Primary Two class will be reunited again in Primary Three next year. All pupils will be supported in reaching their potential whether they are in a composite class or not. Teacher planning will ensure that Year 2 pupils will have opportunities to come together whenever possible eg shared play, sport, extra-curricular activities.

I have attached the letter I will issue to parents today and the P1/2 and P2/3 class lists for your information. Please begin talking to your child about this transition to help prepare them for this change.

All other classes will move forward as a current class group with teachers remaining in the same classes:

Primary Four: Mrs Boyle

Primary Five: Mrs Redmond/Ms Herron

Primary Six: Mrs McAleer

Primary Seven: Miss Doyle

Many thanks for your continued support in the matter.

Stay safe and well.

Mrs Redmond x
