Cross-Curricular Learning in Year 2
In Year 2 in the month of May our over-arching theme was 'Spring’.
To engage the children in their learning we used this theme to make cross curricular links in a range of subjects. The children took part in a ‘Topic’ afternoon where we could link some of our Art and Design work into our theme. The children made an amazing blossom tree using tissue paper, paint and toilet paper rolls .One of the highlights of the month was our 'Spring Hunt' to help inspire the children and fully engage them in the topic. We looked for all the different signs of spring in the wooded area. The children looked at a diagram of the different stages of the life cycle of a frog. During Literacy the children then took a closer look at the animal at each stage and described how it looked and changed over time. With this understanding of the life cycle the children went on to create their own Frog life cycle using a paper plate and pictures .
Cross curricular learning provides children with engaging, motivating and challenging experiences in their learning.
