Safer Internet Day in Altinure
Today was Safer Internet Day and the theme for this year was ‘Inspiring Change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online.’
Our P1, P2 and P3 pupils watched online digital stories and took part in class discussions and group activities focusing on the importance of not talking to strangers online and what to do when pop-ups or messages appear. They looked at lots of examples and learned the importance of telling a trusted adult when messages or friend requests appear.
In P4-P7 the main focus was online influencers. The children identified the definition of an influencer and were able to name many online influencers. They showed excellent awareness of the positive and negative aspects of online influencers and enjoyed taking part in group discussions and walking debates.
We are looking forward to seeing the ‘Online Influencers’ posters which will be completed as a homework activity.
At the end of the internet safety lessons our pupils were able to identify one or two changes that they could make to help to keep them safer when online.
We would like to remind parents and carers that there are many useful tips and resources on our Safer Schools NI app to help increase the safety of your children when online. Additional resources can also be found in the Parent section of our school website.
