The children had to arrange nine shape patches so that every number of sides of the shapes in every row and column on the Patchwork quilt added up to 12 .Year 4 in their groups were encouraged to experiment with different arrangements and persevere until they had successfully completed the task . At the end of the session each group was invited to show their work . Then together we counted how many different solutions the children had found altogether .
